Application Security Engineer – Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist with initiatives and projects aimed at bolstering security within application development processes.

• Assess and enhance security tools while investigating technologies that improve security posture and scalability.

• Perform internal penetration testing and conduct code reviews.

• Develop, revise, and maintain threat models for software initiatives.

• Utilize AI to automate workflows and enhance operational efficiencies.

• Provide guidance to software developers on secure coding methodologies and vulnerability remediation.

• Analyze source code and assist in addressing potential vulnerabilities.

• Prepare communications regarding the status of security projects and programs for stakeholders and leadership.

• Aid in the creation of security training materials and offer support to internal software development teams.

• Assist with incident response activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in scripting and development, ideally in support of web applications.

• 2-3 years of experience in cloud engineering, preferably utilizing Infrastructure as Code, with a focus on AWS.

• Knowledge of Claude AI and other AI tools, and the application of agentic AI for automation.

• Experience with NIST and HIPAA is a plus.

• Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating and prioritizing technical risks.

• Understanding of security best practices and standards, including OWASP, OWASP ASVS, S-SDLC, and BSIMM.

• Strong communication skills with the capability to convey complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical collaborators, fostering an inclusive environment.

• Ability to identify and eliminate bottlenecks for teammates related to processes and technology.

• Familiarity with a diverse range of security tools, technologies, and methodologies.
