AI Industry Associate – Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Create a compelling argument that a credible AI strategy does not need to rely on the development or adoption of highly general, autonomous AI systems.

• Oversee and support non-hyperscaling technical pathways, which includes efficient/smaller models, open-source and open-science AI, physical AI/robotics, and high-value applications in industrial and scientific data.

• Collaborate with policymakers and stakeholders focused on sovereign AI strategies, including those from Brazil, Canada, EU Member States, and the EU AI Office in Brussels.

• Build alliances among relevant stakeholders.

• Generate policy-ready recommendations for decision-makers.

• Develop and promote a pro-human, reliable, verifiable, controllable, human-directed, and purpose-driven AI strategy.

• Engage with policymakers on the integration of AI innovation and safety regulation.

• Report directly to the Head of European Policy and Research.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience as a technology strategist, preferably in the field of AI policy.

• Adequate technical fluency in advanced AI, encompassing capabilities trajectories, agentic systems, and evaluation and verification methodologies.

• Experience engaging with policymakers beyond the US and China, or a demonstrated ability to do so.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Capacity to produce policy-ready analysis and represent FLI in expert or high-level environments.

• Demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

• Skills in stakeholder management and building partnerships across institutions, industry, and international partners.

• Strong independence and initiative.

• Alignment with FLI's mission of mitigating catastrophic risks while fostering positive futures.

• Graduate degree in a relevant area such as economics, computer science, or a technical AI discipline (preferred).

• Previous experience in a tech startup or comparable technology industry experience (preferred).

• Background knowledge or familiarity with a safety-sensitive industrial sector (preferred).

• Existing connections among frontier AI researchers and relevant policymakers (preferred).
