This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist the U.S. Navy Community College (USNCC) by providing high-quality, fully online asynchronous instruction to enlisted Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen pursuing higher education.

• Instruct Naval Studies and/or General Education courses designed to enhance critical thinking, leadership, communication, and operational readiness, thereby supporting the Navy's goal of cultivating an educated and mission-ready force.

• Deliver engaging instruction, assess student performance, facilitate discussions, and provide timely, constructive feedback while upholding the highest standards of academic excellence and professionalism.

• Create supplemental materials (limited to 10-15%) featuring current events and/or pertinent past experiences for approval by the USNCC Dean and/or Associate Dean of the Academic Program; upload all materials to the USNCC LMS.

• Conduct instruction via the USNCC Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), utilizing the government-provided course shell that contains instructional resources, core lectures, assignments, grading rubrics, and discussion topics.

• Foster engaging online discussions that promote critical thinking and active participation from students.

• Evaluate assignments, exams, discussion posts, and projects according to established grading rubrics.

• Offer detailed written feedback that supports student learning and academic achievement.

• Monitor student progress throughout the course and proactively identify those who may be at risk academically.

• Maintain regular communication with students and respond to inquiries within set response timeframes.

• Hold weekly virtual office hours, along with additional flexible hours as necessary to aid student success.

• Prepare a weekly progress report.

• Submit all grades and required documentation by established deadlines.

• Generate end-of-course reports summarizing student performance and suggesting course improvements.

• Participate in faculty meetings and collaborate with Course Leads, Academic Affairs, and Student Services as needed.

• Stay current in the assigned discipline through professional development, scholarship, research, or involvement in professional organizations.


⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.

• Relevant military background or experience in government, and/or working with military personnel.

• Experience teaching at the collegiate level within an online learning environment utilizing Learning Management Systems (Blackboard or similar LMS).

• Appropriate academic qualifications and a record of scholarship/research consistent with the assigned teaching role: Demonstrated expertise in U.S. national security studies, American government, political science, organizational design, naval engineering, and systems engineering.

• Prior experience teaching courses related to U.S. defense strategy/policy, introduction to U.S. politics and government, systems engineering, naval systems design, public policy, and public policy analysis.

• A Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in a relevant field.

• A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.

• Previous experience teaching at the college level.

• Bachelor’s Degree.

• Specific, high-level professional experience directly related to the course’s subject matter in a military or similar context, such as prior military service, particularly in prominent service-wide positions.

• Demonstrated teaching experience in an online format for working adults; must include teaching at least one semester-equivalent course specifically in an online higher education setting at an accredited institution, demonstrating strong student and/or peer evaluations.

• Proven understanding of Andragogy and Adult Learning Theory.

• Significant and substantial relevant experience in a military or related setting that makes you uniquely qualified to teach the specific subject area. This typically includes at least 10-15 years of direct field experience, with a minimum of five years at a senior leadership level in the specific course area being taught.
