This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Execute intricate actuarial calculations to evaluate property and casualty rate submissions for adherence to state insurance regulations and to ascertain if rates are excessive, inadequate, or unfairly discriminatory.
• Propose filing recommendations to the Bureau Chief and/or Senior Management.
• Supervise one Senior Actuarial Analyst and one Actuarial Analyst, overseeing their work deliverables.
• Monitor the performance of direct reports and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Analyze, report, and interpret legally mandated data and statistics for designated filings and actuarial reports.
• Provide consultation on legislative matters, review proposed laws, assess impacts, and suggest amendments to statutory or administrative rules.
• Lead, conduct, and oversee insurance or data-related studies and projects.
• Respond to inquiries from the Insurance Commissioner, Legislature, media, public-records requesters, consumers, government agencies, NAIC, and professional organizations.
• Assist management with the formulation of strategic plans and objectives.
• Offer actuarial consultation throughout the Office and act as a business expert on insurance industry operations.
• Aid in developing model position papers backed by actuarial science or analysis.
• Participate in the DFS Disaster Response Team and perform related duties, including travel on short notice when necessary.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Bureau Chief, Senior Management, or their designees.
• Must be a member of the Casualty Actuarial Society or, in accordance with Florida Statute 624.307(6), an enrolled actuary.
• Must maintain good standing with the Casualty Actuarial Society and possess the ACAS or FCAS designation.
• Ability to travel occasionally.
• This position entails regulatory responsibilities under Chapter 22A-16, Florida Administrative Code.
• Preference for candidates possessing Personal Property/Homeowners experience.
• Preference for candidates with over five years of professional actuarial experience.
• Must adhere to reasonable-suspicion drug testing as stipulated by Florida's Drug-Free Workplace Act.
• Must collaborate as a member of the DFS Disaster Response Team and be available for disaster-relief duties and associated travel on short notice.
