This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of and oversee the daily implementation of the Firm’s accounting operations.
• Ensure the general ledger is maintained and transactions are accurately recorded.
• Prepare and post routine and sanctioned adjusting journal entries.
• Manage the monthly and year-end accounting closing procedures.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, schedules, and financial statements.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items.
• Oversee accounts receivable accounting, including client payments, credits, write-offs, and adjustments.
• Supervise accounts payable operations, invoices, reimbursements, vendor records, and payment controls.
• Maintain operating cash accounting records and perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Manage or supervise trust/IOLTA account reconciliations and ensure trust accounting compliance.
• Oversee payroll accounting activities and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
• Generate management reports, budget-to-actual reports, financial schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Assist with tax preparation and external audits.
• Implement and oversee internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
• Lead administration of accounting systems and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Supervise, train, mentor, and develop assigned accounting staff.
• Set priorities, deadlines, cross-training, and backup coverage for essential accounting functions.
• Communicate significant accounting issues, staffing requirements, and recommendations to the Director of Finance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with supervisory or team-lead responsibilities.
• Experience in law firm or professional services accounting is highly preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing, accounts payable, accounts receivable accounting, cash management, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with law firm billing and trust accounting is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting controls.
• Experience with trust/IOLTA accounting is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting and legal billing software such as QuickBooks, Clio, Elite, Aderant, or similar systems.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to work efficiently with complex financial data.
• Proven capability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively supervise, train, and develop accounting personnel.
