Accounting Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate manual accounting and finance workflows to discover automation opportunities.

• Develop repeatable processes across various systems, exports, reports, and data sources.

• Enhance reconciliations, journal entry preparation, close tracking, reporting, and exception management.

• Facilitate the connection between operational data and accounting as well as finance processes.

• Generate templates, scripts, dashboards, workflows, and documentation that minimize manual tasks.

• Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, and technology teams to identify process gaps and create effective solutions.

• Establish controls to ensure that automation enhances accuracy rather than merely accelerating flawed processes.

• Develop exception-based workflows, allowing teams to concentrate on issues instead of routine data entry.

• Clearly document processes to ensure they can be sustained and improved over time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in automating manual processes using tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, Python, Power Query, VBA, Google Apps Script, Zapier, Make, Power Automate, APIs, or comparable platforms.

• Strong capability in handling data exports, reports, spreadsheets, and system-generated files.

• Solid understanding of accounting or finance processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, accounts payable, payroll, reporting, or financial analysis.

• Ability to chart a current process, pinpoint failure points, and construct a streamlined workflow.

• Excellent analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.

• Proficient in working with non-technical users and converting business challenges into automated solutions.

• Strong documentation practices.

• Comfort in a fast-paced environment where systems and processes are still being developed.
