This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Develop, refine, and sustain scientific code for the processing of observational data, executing models, and facilitating experimental workflows within the SWPC Testbed.
• Aid in the containerization of scientific applications utilizing tools like Docker or Singularity.
• Assist in the design, establishment, and execution of testbed experiments.
• Integrate new model outputs and observational inputs into forecasting workflows.
• Conduct data analysis and quality assurance for space weather models and observational datasets.
• Support testbed experiments and product validation efforts.
• Contribute to the development of graphical user interfaces or visualization tools for forecasting tools and data products.
• Collaborate with research scientists, systems engineers, and operational personnel.
• Document software, experiments, and evaluation findings.
• Participate in briefings and technical discussions with stakeholders.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, engineering, mathematics, atmospheric science, space physics, geophysics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Over 5 years of experience in web development.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Fortran, or C/C++.
• Experience in Linux-based environments.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
• Familiarity with data formats such as NetCDF and HDF5.
• Experience in scripting for workflow automation.
• Ability to analyze intricate datasets and perform diagnostics.
• Effective communication of results in both written and verbal formats.
• Preferred experience with containerization tools like Docker or Singularity.
• Preferred experience with high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
• Preferred familiarity with atmospheric, heliophysical, or magnetospheric modeling systems or frameworks.
• Preferred understanding of operational forecasting environments and the research-to-operations process.
• Preferred experience in collaborative scientific software development projects or testbed environments.
• A Master's or Ph.D. in a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent experience is acceptable.
