This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Deliver comprehensive WAN design, implementation, support, and documentation.
• Oversee BGP routing design and operations at scale across carrier, cloud, and internal domains.
• Direct Cato Networks SD-WAN architecture and operations, encompassing site onboarding, policy design, routing preferences, and security integration.
• Manage WAN traffic routing, security, bandwidth, and QoS.
• Architect and oversee cloud interconnectivity through Equinix Fabric, AWS, and other cloud service providers.
• Design and support EVPN/VXLAN data center fabric technologies.
• Engineer diverse access fiber plants at ground stations and demarcation extensions.
• Review carrier KMZ route data to ensure physical path diversity.
• Manage network observability and SLA assurance utilizing Kentik and related monitoring tools.
• Diagnose WAN-related issues to achieve rapid resolution.
• Maintain WAN edge device configurations and backups.
• Test and activate new WAN circuits in collaboration with telecommunications and ground station personnel.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity on segmentation, zero trust initiatives, and compliance-driven network controls.
• Generate and maintain architectural documentation, standards, and runbooks.
• Lead vendor and carrier relationships, including circuit procurement, escalations, and technology assessments.
• Interact with IT, network engineers, and other departments.
• Offer technical mentorship to network engineering staff.
• Travel and work outside of standard hours as required.
• Extensive experience with WAN architectures such as MPLS, VPN, SD-WAN, MP-BGP, DIA, and DWDM/wave services.
• Advanced BGP expertise, including route reflectors, communities, path manipulation, multihoming, and production troubleshooting.
• Proficient in Cisco IOS-XE/NX-OS.
• Multi-vendor experience; familiarity with Arista and Juniper is advantageous.
• Practical experience with EVPN/VXLAN design and operations.
• Knowledge of firewall configurations, ACLs, segmentation, and threat mitigation techniques.
• Experience with AWS VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and Equinix Fabric; familiarity with Azure and Google Cloud connectivity options is a plus.
• Proficient in operating network monitoring and observability platforms; Kentik is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of NetFlow/sFlow/IPFIX analytics, SNMP, streaming telemetry, and synthetic monitoring in an SLA-driven environment.
• Familiarity with network automation and configuration tools such as Ansible, Python, and NetBox.
• Experience with leased wave technologies and the capability to design and activate associated systems.
• Understanding of data center design principles, including power, cooling, and space planning.
• Ability to design and implement redundant systems, diverse facility entrances, and carrier circuit diversity.
• Competence in reading and interpreting KMZ route data.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Adaptability to evolving technical requirements and industry trends.
• Experience with Cato Networks SD-WAN/SASE deployment or operations is a bonus.
• Background in optimizing networking for latency and loss mitigation is a bonus.
• Experience in satellite, telecom carrier, or uptime-critical service provider environments is a bonus.
• Background in regulated or compliance-driven environments is a bonus.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Capability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with NetSuite.
• Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Computer Science, or a related Engineering field.
• CCIE (Routing and Switching), CCNP (Enterprise), or equivalent skills are required.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in WAN engineering, traffic routing, and WAN security.
• At least three (3) years in an architect or lead design role.
• Candidates must be U.S. persons as defined under ITAR/EAR regulations or otherwise eligible for required export authorizations.
• Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
• Willingness and capability to work beyond regular hours as required.
• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods while working on a computer (4 to 8 hours).
• Ability to operate the equipment necessary for the job.
