VP, User Experience and Design Innovation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Lead, develop, and communicate a bold, user-focused vision for design and user experience across the Smartsheet product portfolio and external systems.

• Own and expand research, design, design systems, content, localization, and AI-first design strategies across all product lines and regions.

• Build, mentor, and nurture senior functional and design leaders; scale the organization to keep pace with company growth.

• Create career paths and professional development initiatives for team members.

• Establish organizational strategy for design maturity, AI integration, design systems adoption, and cross-functional design-led decision-making.

• Develop, enhance, and scale UX processes, standards, and tools.

• Identify and foster high-impact opportunities to integrate AI into research, design systems, content/localization, and software development.

• Collaborate with executive leadership, product, engineering, and go-to-market teams on strategic initiatives and key business decisions.

• Establish and manage metrics that link design and AI initiatives to user satisfaction, adoption, retention, revenue, and delivery speed.

• Translate business objectives into innovative and engaging product experiences.

• Oversee content strategy and localization across all product lines.

• Report directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in a highly cross-functional role managing strategic projects from conception through execution.

• 15+ years of experience leading and developing UX, design, research, or content teams, with experience as a manager of managers and P&L accountability.

• Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.

• Demonstrated experience in driving AI adoption within design, research, content, or software delivery organizations and developing organization-wide AI strategy.

• In-depth expertise in research methodologies, design strategy, content strategy, and localization best practices for global B2B SaaS platforms.

• Experience leading enterprise SaaS products with intricate user workflows, multi-stakeholder environments, and mission-critical use cases.

• Understanding of AI-assisted software development practices and design-to-engineering handoffs.

• Proven ability to find simple, innovative solutions for complex challenges and facilitate research to uncover user needs.

• Strong visual design sensibility; expert-level proficiency in Figma or similar design/prototyping tools.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; capacity to influence across Product, Engineering, and executive leadership.

• Ability to articulate design choices and advocate for the user while balancing speed and AI-driven innovation.
