This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Assume responsibility for the platform’s most vital technical domains: the payments pipeline, the billing engine, and the integration layer.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and a compact team of engineers to deploy production systems that manage actual financial transactions for legitimate ISP partners.
• Make architectural choices, develop production code, assess the work of others, and assist the team when they encounter technical obstacles.
• Oversee the payments domain, which includes SasaPay collections integration and the revenue split engine.
• Manage the billing engine, incorporating subscription and billing cycle lifecycles, as well as automated renewal cron jobs.
• Supervise the integration layer, which encompasses the Splynx adapter and a custom webhook delivery engine.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years dedicated to backend systems that process real financial transactions (payments, billing, ledger, or treasury).
• Extensive expertise in TypeScript/Node.js. You should be capable of architecting a NestJS microservice from the ground up, not just working within one.
• Hands-on experience with payment gateway integrations (M-Pesa, Stripe, Adyen, or similar). You possess an understanding of STK push flows, webhook idempotency, callback signature verification, and reconciliation.
• Proficient in PostgreSQL. You can design schemas for financial data, create migrations, and analyze transaction isolation and locking.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar). You can differentiate between request-reply and fire-and-forget patterns and know when to apply each.
• You deliver results. You can transform a specification document into production code without waiting for someone else to decompose it into manageable tasks.
• Strong preference for:
• Experience in East African fintech or mobile money ecosystems (M-Pesa, SasaPay, Airtel Money), with insights into Kenya’s payment infrastructure and regulatory landscape.
• Background in ISP billing systems, RADIUS protocols, or telecommunications platforms.
• Experience with Prisma ORM and NestJS specifically.
• Proven experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms (provider-scoped data, API key authentication, webhook delivery).
• A history of migrating monolithic systems to microservices while maintaining production operations.
• Competitive salary and substantial equity in a mission-driven, investor-backed firm (US-incorporated; Kenya operating entity).
• Private health and wellness benefits — these will be discussed during the hiring process.
