This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee legal strategy and provide daily counsel across Privacy, Compliance, Product Legal, and Artificial Intelligence.
• Offer guidance to product and engineering teams regarding new features and developments that impact disclosures, data sharing, and customer experience.
• Draft, review, and update consumer-facing agreements, online terms, and regulatory notifications.
• Evaluate marketing initiatives for legal compliance, including offer terms and conditions, promotional disclosures, sweepstakes regulations, and approved templates.
• Deliver legal advice on U.S. and global privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations, and enforcement trends.
• Convert evolving regulatory guidance and supervisory expectations into implementable legal counsel.
• Keep abreast of emerging issues such as AI governance, data ethics, digital identity, and advanced cyber threats.
• Counsel on privacy-by-design, security-by-design, data minimization, retention, cross-border data transfers, and access controls.
• Lead the legal response to privacy and cybersecurity incidents, including investigations, legal risk assessments, and regulatory and contractual analysis.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external forensic firms, outside counsel, and crisis management advisors.
• Advise on notification duties, litigation risks, and regulatory interactions stemming from cyber events.
• Provide counsel on privacy and cybersecurity matters in vendor engagements, cloud services, SaaS platforms, fintech partnerships, strategic investments, and M&A activities.
• Draft, negotiate, and authorize data protection and information security provisions in agreements with customers, vendors, and partners.
• Advise on privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity considerations for artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and other data-driven products and business strategies.
• Educate legal, technology, and business teams on privacy and cybersecurity obligations.
• Aid in scaling consistent, risk-based legal guidance across the organization.
• Report directly to the Chief Legal Officer and act as a trusted advisor to product, engineering, marketing, and business teams.
• At least 15 years of pertinent legal experience.
• Extensive experience in privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and technology/commercial law.
• In-house experience providing advice to product and engineering teams is highly desirable.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law institution.
• Active law license in good standing in the attorney's state of residence.
• Familiarity with U.S. state and federal privacy and data protection laws, including CCPA/CPRA and other state privacy regulations.
• Understanding of global frameworks such as GDPR.
• Practical knowledge of emerging AI governance frameworks and legal challenges posed by AI-enabled products and analytics.
• Experience in leading or supporting cybersecurity incident responses, including coordination with forensic firms, outside counsel, and regulatory bodies.
• Proven success in negotiating data protection and security provisions in commercial, vendor, and technology contracts.
• Strong judgment and business insight.
• Capability to translate complex regulatory demands into clear, actionable advice for non-legal audiences.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capacity to build trust among legal, product, engineering, marketing, and executive teams.
• CIPP and CISSP certifications are advantageous.
