VP, AI – Applications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and establish the technical direction for the team focused on Karman's algorithms, control methods, optimization, and applied research.

• Foster technical co-development with key technology partners across hardware, firmware, and commercial avenues.

• Create and oversee release strategies for algorithms and application-related work.

• Collaborate with the VP of Engineering to ensure that algorithms and control methodologies are tailored for production deployment.

• Maintain a hands-on approach initially and evolve into a leader-of-leaders role as the team expands.

• Work alongside the People Team to attract, onboard, and retain top-tier talent in algorithms, applied AI, and control systems.

• Enhance resource allocation, budgeting, and project timelines to maximize team efficiency.

• Develop and report on success metrics that assess the team's impact on organizational goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10-15+ years of professional experience leading teams engaged in the development of algorithms, control systems, optimization methods, or applied AI within production environments.

• Strong technical expertise in control theory, power systems, optimization, applied machine learning, or signal processing.

• Proven experience in algorithms and decision-making frameworks utilizing edge AI tools.

• A history of nurturing leaders and advancing the careers of senior engineers and researchers.

• Ability to guide a senior, technically proficient team while remaining actively involved.

• Experience in translating research and prototypes into commercially viable products in a startup or fast-paced setting.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of representing technical work effectively to executives, customers, and external technical entities.

• Familiarity with intellectual property strategy and the patent application process.

• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
