This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the technical expert for intricate reinsurance transactions and policy interpretations, possessing specialized knowledge in ASC 944, Financial Services – Insurance.
• Investigate, interpret, and establish accounting policies for sophisticated reinsurance structures and emerging transactions, ensuring consistency, precision, and audit defensibility.
• Collaborate closely with actuarial, tax, and financial reporting teams to research, analyze, and develop accounting policies regarding U.S. GAAP, SEC, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda statutory and Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) accounting and reporting guidance pertinent to reinsurance, insurance, and other evolving issues.
• Provide technical accounting advice that influences transaction structuring and execution.
• Monitor, assess, and document developments (including new standards) from the FASB, SEC, NAIC, and BMA that may affect the Company’s accounting policies, practices, and disclosures.
• Lead the creation and documentation of financial processes and controls to ensure compliance with the Company’s internal control program, particularly focusing on technical accounting matters.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, offering timely guidance on accounting policy implications to bolster corporate development and strategic initiatives, including but not limited to reinsurance transactions.
• Provide coaching, training, and technical support to accounting and finance team members as required.
• Assist with additional accounting policy initiatives and responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA, CA, or an equivalent internationally recognized accounting designation.
• Over 8 years of progressive experience in audit, re/insurance, or financial services; experience with Big 4 firms is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in US GAAP and SEC reporting is essential.
• Familiarity with US STAT (NAIC) or financial reporting overseen by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) is preferred.
• Experience with long-duration reinsurance accounting (ASC 944), as well as a general understanding of the interaction between reinsurance liabilities and associated portfolio assets.
• Practical experience with complex reinsurance structures, including the related accounting implications of coinsurance, funds withheld, and modified coinsurance frameworks.
• Proven ability to exercise sound professional judgment on intricate accounting matters and effectively communicate conclusions to senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively with various teams, including actuarial (pricing, valuation), tax, and legal, with experience advising senior leaders and influencing cross-functional outcomes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while upholding high standards of quality and accuracy.
• Strong analytical judgment with the ability to distill complex issues into clear, defensible conclusions.
