Virtual Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Supervise the administration, monitoring, and upkeep of the private cloud platform.

• Manage VMware ESXi and vSphere environments, including vCenter, vSAN, VxRail, VMware Cloud Foundation, and NSX as required.

• Provision, configure, and retire virtual machines, templates, and resource pools.

• Conduct lifecycle management, including patching, upgrades, firmware updates, and hardware enhancements.

• Oversee backup, replication, disaster recovery, and recovery testing across various sites.

• Collaborate with data center, network, storage, and cross-functional teams on infrastructure integration, scalability, and hardware refresh initiatives.

• Provide Level 3 support for critical incidents and carry out root cause analysis.

• Participate in 24x7 on-call support for outages and critical incidents.

• Coordinate with vendor partners on advanced solution implementations.

• Automate routine tasks by utilizing scripting and automation tools.

• Support private cloud orchestration and self-service provisioning tools.

• Maintain precise ServiceNow incident, problem, change, and CMDB records.

• Collaborate with automation teams to integrate ServiceNow, Ansible, SCOM, vSphere, Satellite, and related systems.

• Enforce security and compliance practices, including adherence to HIPAA requirements.

• Perform vulnerability assessments and implement patches, updates, and system hardening measures.

• Monitor performance, resource utilization, capacity, and future infrastructure needs.

• Conduct tuning and identify self-healing and proactive remediation opportunities.

• Keep platform documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, procedures, and policies up-to-date.

• Share knowledge with and mentor junior team members.

• Communicate with internal stakeholders, provide technical guidance, manage expectations, and document expertise during critical outages.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in systems, infrastructure, or virtualization operations.

• Extensive knowledge of private cloud technologies, especially VMware vSphere/ESXi and hyper-converged platforms like vSAN and VxRail.

• Familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation, Nutanix, Hyper-V, or OpenShift.

• Experience in managing virtualized environments.

• Experience in an on-call, 24x7 operational environment.

• Proficient in Windows Server OS, Active Directory, and Group Policy.

• Basic knowledge of Linux.

• Strong understanding of data center networking, including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and load balancing.

• Knowledge of enterprise storage systems, including SAN, vSAN, HCI, and software-defined storage.

• Familiarity with ITIL practices, including incident, problem, and change management, preferably using ServiceNow.

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

• High school diploma plus 4 years of relevant work experience can substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
