This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• The Vice President of Communications is responsible for crafting a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances the visibility of the Children’s Funding Project, clarifies our narrative, and furthers the children’s funding movement.
• Supervise executive and thought-leadership communications, media relations, digital and social media, publications, and communications related to learning.
• Enhance communication systems and capabilities throughout the organization.
• Guide the organization’s communications strategy with clear goals, target audiences, priorities, and success metrics.
• Foster a cohesive national narrative that connects public funding to children, bridging the complexities of policy with public understanding.
• Invest in and manage executive communications, which includes providing thought leadership support for the CEO and other key leaders.
• Promote ongoing enhancements in communications operations, including streamlined approval processes and decision-making criteria.
• Formulate and execute a proactive media strategy that positions the Children’s Funding Project and its leadership as national thought leaders.
• Manage the digital footprint, including website, email, and social media platforms.
• Ensure that significant communications initiatives and campaigns drive tangible action in the real world.
• At least ten years of experience in communications and staff leadership within a nonprofit, government, philanthropy, advocacy, or similar environment, managing multiple projects or portfolios.
• Proven track record in developing and implementing organization-wide communications strategies that transition organizations from reactive to proactive communication approaches.
• Established capability in leading media relations and thought-leadership initiatives, including strategy formulation, spokesperson training, and, where applicable, oversight of external media partnerships.
• Proficient in digital and social media strategy, encompassing platform selection, content strategy, and analytics, ideally in the context of advocacy, movement-building, or policy reform.
• Experience in building and managing effective communications systems and processes, including workflows, approval channels, and tools that facilitate both responsiveness and routine operations.
• Familiarity with working alongside diverse communities and a strong commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion values.
• Demonstrated experience in managing remote teams and staff, including fostering professional development and providing mentorship.
• A strong passion for the mission and objectives of the Children’s Funding Project, coupled with the ability to articulate this enthusiasm to others.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling effective representation of the organization to a broad spectrum of stakeholders and constituencies.
• A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree in Communications, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business, or a related field is preferred.
