UX Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead human-centered design efforts across NBS modernization projects by utilizing established federal human-centered design practices.

• Ensure ongoing user involvement and guarantee that product decisions are guided by user research, operational workflows, and quantifiable usability results.

• Organize and execute user research through interviews, workflow observations, contextual inquiries, usability tests, and production metrics.

• Convert research findings, ticket trends, and production analytics into user personas, journey maps, workflow diagrams, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.

• Collaborate with Product Managers to transform validated designs into product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

• Create and uphold intuitive, accessible, and cohesive user experiences that align with the NBS Design System, Section 508/WCAG standards, and usability guidelines.

• Assist in accessibility validation utilizing automated testing tools and manual evaluation methods.

• Work in partnership with product managers, public health informaticians, epidemiologists, engineers, and other stakeholders.

• Direct iterative usability assessments using prototypes and thin vertical slice delivery methods.

• Present research findings, usability suggestions, and design choices through presentations, design reviews, usability reports, and other implementation documents.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in user experience design, public health, health informatics, information systems, design, or a related discipline along with nine (9) years of pertinent experience, or a Master's degree in a relevant field with seven (7) years of experience.

• Equivalent combinations of education and professional experience may also be taken into account.

• Proven experience in planning and executing user research, usability testing, workflow analysis, and human-centered design activities.

• Demonstrated ability to convert user research into interaction designs, workflows, journey maps, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and actionable product requirements.

• A track record of effectively communicating with technical teams, public health professionals, and executive stakeholders.

• Capability to successfully complete and maintain a federal government Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation.

• Preferred: Experience working with the CDC or state, local, tribal, or territorial public health agencies.

• Preferred: Familiarity with communicable disease surveillance systems such as NBS or NNDSS.

• Preferred: Ability to thrive in a distributed, collaborative environment with federal partners and contractors.

• Preferred: Experience in facilitating usability testing and design workshops with diverse stakeholder groups.

• Preferred: Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance workflows, case investigation, or public health reporting.
