This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +6 more states.
• Oversee MEM’s Underwriting Quality Assurance program, evaluating outcomes to pinpoint trends, risks, and training requirements.
• Create and uphold QA methodologies, standards, and reporting that are in line with underwriting guidelines and compliance mandates.
• Offer guidance and direction regarding quality trends and corrective measures to enhance consistency and performance.
• Spearhead the development and delivery of underwriting training; act as a technical expert and resource on intricate issues.
• Maintain underwriting guidelines, manuals, procedures, and authority statements.
• Lead the Underwriting System Support Staff, ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Collaborate with IT to assess, strategize, and implement system upgrades and issue resolutions that enhance efficiency and eliminate redundant tasks.
• Lead or assist in cross-functional projects that promote process and technological advancements.
• Recognize emerging system or operational challenges and work with business partners to devise effective solutions.
• Serve as a senior technical underwriting authority, assessing and approving complex or high-value accounts within designated authority.
• Administer and supervise NCCI and proprietary rules, rates, and forms for Workers Compensation.
• Compose proprietary endorsements and coverage language; manage manuals, policy forms, and statistical coding.
• Evaluate exposures, inspection reports, financials, and risk characteristics to determine coverage and pricing.
• Analyze premium, loss, and performance trends to support profitable growth and engage in rate review assessments.
• Monitor, assess, and convey the effects of legislative or regulatory changes on underwriting practices.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to ensure adherence to regulations and prompt implementation of new requirements.
• Act as the primary underwriting contact for fronted policies, coordinating annual file reviews, meetings, and follow-up activities.
• Track the placement of facultative reinsurance and assist with associated reviews and documentation.
• Initiate efforts to streamline workflows, lessen administrative burdens, and enhance underwriting agility.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to underwriters and leaders on intricate accounts and technical subjects.
• Identify opportunities for development to enhance technical expertise across the underwriting department.
• Develop communication strategies that effectively relay updates, changes, and outcomes to stakeholders.
• Cultivate an innovative, inclusive culture that values diversity, collaboration, and ongoing improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CPCU designation preferred.
• 7+ years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience, including workers’ compensation, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
• 1–2 years of leadership experience (formal or informal) preferred.
