Corporate Casualty Underwriting Director – North American Speciality Underwriting Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the casualty underwriting strategy, governance, and portfolio management to realize profitability, growth, and risk appetite goals.

• Supervise portfolio performance across Construction Casualty, E&S Casualty, Auto, Commercial General Liability, Umbrella, and Workers Compensation.

• Assess rate adequacy, attachment points, limits deployment, aggregation management, and severity trends.

• Develop and uphold underwriting guidelines, referral standards, authority frameworks, and exception governance in collaboration with segment leaders.

• Offer technical guidance on intricate casualty risks, coverage structures, and emerging exposures.

• Work in conjunction with Actuarial, Product, Reinsurance, Claims, Legal, Compliance, and Global Risk Management teams.

• Track industry, legal, regulatory, and market trends and propose underwriting actions accordingly.

• Direct audits, quality assessments, referral management, and ensure adherence to internal standards and regulatory mandates.

• Foster uniformity in underwriting practices with both domestic and international underwriting partners.

• Lead, nurture, and mentor the corporate underwriting team.

• Articulate strategic priorities and performance expectations clearly.

• Support underwriting operations across the U.S. while collaborating with stakeholders in Canada, the UK, and Europe on U.S.-written risks.


⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree is mandatory.

• Preferred qualifications include CPCU, ARM, MBA, JD, or other relevant professional designations.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in casualty underwriting, with significant exposure to General Casualty, Construction Casualty, and/or E&S Casualty.

• At least 5 years of leadership experience in managing and developing underwriting professionals.

• Profound understanding of casualty coverage, pricing, portfolio management, and broker distribution.

• Capacity to lead underwriting strategy, governance, and portfolio oversight.

• Familiarity with underwriting guidelines, referral standards, authority frameworks, and exception governance.

• Experience dealing with complex casualty risks, coverage structures, and emerging exposures.

• Awareness of industry, legal, regulatory, and market developments.

• Proficiency in collaborating with actuarial, product, reinsurance, claims, legal, compliance, and risk management functions.
