Underwriter – Lawyers, Professional Liability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business by assessing applications and supplementary information for insurance coverage;

• Follow all established underwriting guidelines and protocols;

• Ensure that applications are processed within specified time frames.

• Collaborate with sales representatives to gather additional information necessary for the underwriting process.

• Assess the level of risk related to applicants by reviewing factors such as their years of experience, previous claims history, and internal management controls.

• Decide whether to accept, modify terms, adjust rates to ensure appropriate premiums for exposure, non-renew, cancel, or decline risks.

• Use underwriting tools to ascertain accurate rates, classifications, and adjustments.

• Generate quotes based on the risk level associated with the applicant; ensure the completed quote is distributed to the relevant sales representative.

• Forward applications to the appropriate insurance carrier if they exceed Pearl’s underwriting authority.

• Address policy, quote, and various inquiries from both external and internal customers.

• Achieve production targets and quality benchmarks set by management; work towards reaching renewal retention rate objectives, new business written volumes, and threshold targets.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Prior experience in underwriting within business insurance lines using Siebel or another Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.

• Property & Casualty insurance license is preferred.
