Turbomachinery Auxiliary Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and create auxiliary systems for turboexpanders, compressors, turbines, pumps, and other rotating equipment.

• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, and system architecture drawings.

• Specify and size lubrication systems, seal gas systems, coolers, heat exchangers, pumps, filtration systems, pressure vessels, accumulators, control valves, instrumentation, and interconnecting piping.

• Conduct process calculations for flow, pressure drop, heat transfer, and equipment sizing.

• Create technical specifications, datasheets, bills of materials, and procurement packages.

• Select equipment based on customer needs and industry standards.

• Assess vendor quotations and evaluate supplier engineering documentation.

• Ensure compatibility and integration of mechanical, process, electrical, and control systems.

• Support projects from the proposal stage through to commissioning.

• Engage in design reviews, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), customer meetings, and bid clarification discussions.

• Coordinate engineering deliverables across various disciplines.

• Manage technical interfaces with customers, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers.

• Provide technical assistance during manufacturing, assembly, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and startup operations.

• Define instrumentation requirements and control philosophies for turbomachinery packages.

• Develop control narratives and cause-and-effect documentation.

• Support Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)/Distributed Control System (DCS) interface requirements and review control logic.

• Ensure designs adhere to relevant API, ASME, ISA, NEC, UL, IEC, CE, ATEX, CSA, and customer standards.

• Assist with installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, performance testing, aftermarket support, root-cause analyses, and reliability enhancement initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering field.

• 3–5 years of experience as an instrument and control engineer, particularly in turbomachinery.

• Familiarity with NEC, UL, IEC, CE Directives, ATEX, ISA standards, hazardous codes, and CSA electrical panel safety codes.

• Understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

• Experience implementing these standards in cryogenic pumps and turboexpander control systems.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.

• Self-motivated with a proactive attitude.

• Capability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate as part of a team.

• Proven track record of self-improvement.

• Strong commitment to safety.

• Ability to perform necessary physical activities, including talking/hearing, close vision, adjusting focus, lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or using a stool.
