This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee all facets of insurance defense litigation from the beginning of the case to the final verdict.
• Perform initial assessments of cases, manage discovery, conduct depositions, engage in motion practices, negotiate pre-trial matters, advocate in court, and handle post-trial motions.
• Collect and organize documentation, evidence, and legal research for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
• Execute legal research on statutes, regulations, and case law; prepare summaries and reports.
• Compose pleadings, motions, responses to discovery, and other legal documents.
• Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses; prepare summary statements and keep communication records.
• Attend court hearings, depositions, and various legal proceedings; represent the organization or clients in standard matters as necessary.
• Keep track of changes in laws and regulations and inform the legal team about potential implications.
• Provide legal advice to business clients and facilitate coordination among legal teams.
• Engage in training sessions and mentorship programs.
• Juris Doctorate degree.
• Active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
• Successful candidates should obtain federal licensure from the Southern District of Texas as soon as feasible.
• Ideal for individuals at the beginning of their careers who are eager to gain courtroom and litigation experience.
• Completion of courses emphasizing legal research, writing, and analysis is essential.
• Proficient in conducting comprehensive legal research and drafting clear, well-organized legal documents.
• Strong time management abilities for handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
• Capability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process.
• Proficient communication skills for interacting with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of communications.
• Understanding of legal ethics and professional conduct standards.
• Basic negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions.
• Must be within a commutable distance to courthouses in the greater Houston, Texas area.
• Must pass a background investigation.
• Must have a reliable internet connection with minimum speeds of 50 MB download and 5 MB upload.
• Must have a dedicated, private workspace at home free from distractions, equipped with a suitable desk and seating.
