Test Engineer – Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Work collaboratively with analysts and architects to conduct various tests that uphold standards and compliance.

• Improve automation and scripting initiatives within the Scrum framework, enhancing Agile methodologies and contributing to a more efficient and reliable software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Engage in Agile Scrum development ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily scrums, backlog refinement, task/test definition, level of effort estimation, testing, work tracking, retrospectives, and demonstrations.

• Create, maintain, and execute sprint-level manual and automated testing activities, such as defining scenarios, crafting detailed scripts and procedures, developing Cucumber Gherkin feature files and scenarios, and aligning user story acceptance criteria with script verification points in Jira using Xray and Cucumber BDD plug-ins.

• Build and maintain automated scripts utilized during CI/CD builds and nightly regression test suite runs.

• Design and manage automated UI and backend scripts (including SQL and logs) within a Java-based Selenium/Cucumber/Serenity framework, stored in a GitLab repository, which may integrate with Cucumber or other generic tests.

• Develop and sustain automated web service API validation scripts using tools such as Spring ToolSuite4, Rest Assured, Postman, Fiddler, and SoapUI.

• Collaborate with the Product Architect and/or Business Analyst to assess the impacts of proposed changes on the automated smoke and/or regression test suites and plan accordingly.

• Conduct comprehensive static and dynamic testing of the system under evaluation using both functional and non-functional testing methodologies.

• Execute peer reviews of scripts and/or code to ensure adherence to program-level manual and automated testing standards, guidelines, and procedures.

• Document and monitor the progress of testing activities throughout the sprint.


⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

• The candidate must be capable of obtaining CBP Public Trust clearance.

• Familiarity with and understanding of the fundamental principles of Manual Functional Testing, Automated Testing, and Continuous Integration.

• A college degree (B.S. or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Management Systems, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for a degree.

• Practical experience in an IT-related role (7+ years), with 2-3 or more years focused on analyzing, designing, and implementing software test automation solutions.

• Experience testing applications built with Java, JavaScript, AngularJS, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.

• Skills in developing and executing automated test scripts using open-source tools such as Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, Selenium, Cucumber BDD, Serenity BDD, and Maven.

• Proficiency in programming with Java (3-5 years) and other technologies (e.g., JavaScript, Web Services, SOAP, XML).

• Experience in SQL CRUD script development for Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.

• Ability to apply estimation techniques for manual test script efforts and automated test script development/maintenance tasks.

• Experience interacting with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Scrum Masters, Product Architects, Developers, and Technical Writers, offering expertise on automation tools and testing strategies tailored to project requirements.

• A collaborative team player capable of thriving in a teamwork-oriented environment.

• Familiarity with working in a continuous integration setting and supporting tools like Jenkins, Git, GitLab, AWS, Spring ToolSuite4, Rest Assured, Postman, ANDI.

• Experience participating in a high-performing, highly engaged, and motivated Scrum team.

• Knowledge of the Agile development approach applied to incremental software development projects.

• A highly responsible, team-focused individual with strong communication skills and work ethic; a self-starter.

• Comprehension of the software development life cycle elements.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
