This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.
• Oversee Austin Powder Company’s technical products and services for precious metals, base metals, and industrial mineral mining sectors in the Western USA.
• Recognize, assess, develop, and implement products, technologies, services, and methods to expand and enhance the Western US Mining customer base.
• Offer technical proficiency in blast design, product selection, surveying, loading, and analysis for both surface and underground mining operations.
• Work collaboratively with local, regional, and corporate teams to identify, develop, sell, and apply technical products and services.
• Ensure that technical capabilities are strategically positioned to meet both current and future customer demands.
• Foster a safe and healthy work environment while ensuring adherence to regulatory and policy requirements.
• Deliver technical support encompassing blast design, product selection, surveying, post-blast analysis, blast optimization, and mine planning.
• Determine technical service needs for existing customers and drive growth in the underground market.
• Cultivate surface and underground technical service representatives in collaboration with corporate and LLC management teams.
• Partner with local and regional teams to guarantee operational and technical capabilities align with customer requirements.
• Develop and implement policies, best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
• Maintain expertise in relevant technical-services technologies.
• Visit customer sites on short notice throughout Western US and Canadian markets as required.
• Lead or assist in investigations of product complaints, misfires, and blasting incidents, identifying root causes and corrective measures.
• Manage the identification, vetting, ordering, maintenance, and training related to technical blasting equipment.
• Establish relationships and internal expertise networks across Austin Powder.
• Support product manufacturing goals and enhancements in collaboration with Product Managers.
• Identify, evaluate, qualify, develop, and implement new or enhanced products.
• Gain a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
• Engage in explosives industry news and events.
• Assist in developing business cases for capital expenditure requests, business development, research and development, and process improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to responses for RFPs and RFIs.
• Educate internal and external stakeholders on various blasting topics.
• Report directly to the Director of Corporate Technical Services as a member of the Corporate Technical Services team.
• In-depth understanding of surface and underground mining methods and techniques.
• Extensive technical knowledge in blast design, product selection, surveying, loading, and analysis.
• Comprehensive knowledge of company products and equipment utilized in blasting applications.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical and operational requirements with customer management and engineering teams.
• Strong presentation and writing capabilities.
• Proficiency in leading and managing teams of technical specialists.
• Systematic skills in observation, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, explanation, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Competence in managing multiple projects, schedules, events, and meetings.
• Robust time management and prioritization skills; self-motivated.
• Ability to train both internal and external stakeholders on fundamental and advanced blasting topics.
• Proficiency in identifying trends and formulating innovative strategies.
• Capability to obtain state blasting licensure and ATF explosive handling clearance.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree completed, ideally in Mining Engineering; relevant experience may substitute for educational credentials.
• Over 10 years of experience as a mining engineer, explosives engineer, drill & blast engineer, blaster-in-charge, or in a related industry role.
• Must reside in a key mining market with convenient access to a domestic airport.
• Ability to work in office, plant, and outdoor settings with up to 75% overnight travel.
