This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Acquire a comprehensive technical understanding of PxD's forecasting partners' methodologies, capabilities, and limitations (e.g., model uncertainty, forecast skill, data constraints), enabling you to articulate, in layman's terms, why certain deliverables can or cannot be achieved.
• Distill and convert intricate scientific discoveries — encompassing forecast models, agronomic research, and MEL data — into clear, digestible content for internal stakeholders, policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.
• Generate reports, presentations, and policy briefs as necessary.
• Facilitate structured, ongoing communication between PxD's technical/scientific partners and internal teams as well as government stakeholders, ensuring that technical limitations and opportunities are accurately represented in program and policy discussions.
• A minimum of 4 - 6 years of pertinent work experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as climate informatics, computational climate science, data science, physics, applied mathematics/statistics, or computational science, engineering, and/or economics with a quantitative emphasis; candidates with unconventional backgrounds who blend strong quantitative training with experience in technical or scientific settings are encouraged to apply.
• A solid foundational understanding of quantitative and computational methods, with the capability to engage critically and constructively with forecast modeling scientists; familiarity with essential concepts such as ensemble modeling, probabilistic forecasting, forecast skill metrics, and model uncertainties, whether through formal education or practical experience, is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in Python or R is essential; experience with data pipelines, cloud-based workflows, or geospatial data tools (e.g., xarray, netCDF, GIS) is strongly preferred.
• Experience in working with or interpreting outputs from weather forecasting systems or AI/ML-based models, and translating technical outputs into decision-relevant information for non-specialist audiences, is highly preferred.
• Proven experience serving as a technical translator or project coordinator between technical/scientific teams and non-technical stakeholders, preferably in the agriculture, climate, or development sectors.
• Exceptional ability to synthesize and convey complex technical or scientific information to non-specialist audiences, including translating probabilistic or uncertain findings (e.g., forecast confidence intervals, model limitations) into language that builds confidence in decision-making.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English; fluency in Hindi is preferred, and proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail; capability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently.
• Familiarity with climate adaptation, digital agriculture, and experimental economics is highly desired.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• A passion for making an impact and a strong sense of purpose aligned with PxD's mission to support smallholder farmers.
• A collaborative mindset, resilience when facing challenges, and a desire to continuously learn and innovate.
• Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
• PxD is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
• We offer flexible working arrangements to ensure you can be as productive and satisfied as possible.
