
Technical Product Manager – IntelliJ Scala Plugin

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.
• Take ownership of the product vision for the Scala plugin, ensuring it delivers fast, accurate, and reliable IDE support that evolves alongside the language.
• Examine product usage data and conduct a regular series of user interviews to base decisions on actual workflows.
• Utilize IntelliJ IDEA with the Scala plugin on a daily basis – testing features, identifying regressions, and validating the developer experience directly.
• Create and maintain reference projects that showcase new features, serve as material for conference presentations, and act as a dynamic test bed for developer experience quality.
• Lead the ongoing adjustment of the plugin roadmap for immediate release objectives, mid-term initiatives, and long-range projects pertaining to the Scala ecosystem.
• Synchronize plugin planning with Scala compiler updates and IntelliJ IDEA release cycles.
• Make informed decisions regarding trade-offs and assertively decline options when cost, risk, or maintenance demands outweigh user benefits.
• Establish problem statements, success criteria, and feature scope, and collaborate with engineers to validate and refine these aspects.
• Represent key Scala stakeholders – including developers and library authors – and prioritize persistent challenges, such as false positives, slow analysis, unreliable refactorings, onboarding difficulties, and AI agent integrations.
• Collaborate with Developer Advocates, the IntelliJ IDEA, Marketing teams, and other JetBrains divisions.
• Possesses professional software development experience in Scala (this is essential).
• Has a minimum of five years in technical product management or a similar role within a complex technical field.
• Engages directly with the product rather than relying solely on reports and meetings.
• Familiar with AI coding tools and agents, with a keen interest in their impact on developer workflows.
• Capable of formulating clear roadmaps that include problem statements, success criteria, and defined trade-offs.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills in English – both written and verbal – suitable for technical colleagues and executive audiences alike.
• Prepared to represent the product externally at conferences, in blog articles, and during community interactions.
