This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Oversee, assist, and evaluate transportation design projects throughout the planning, design, proposal, and construction support stages.
• Offer technical expertise on roadway design, corridor enhancements, safety-driven improvements, multidisciplinary coordination, and public agency delivery.
• Aid CDOT and local agency initiatives by elucidating requirements, design expectations, quality standards, review comments, timelines, and client priorities.
• Examine drawings, calculations, specifications, estimates, reports, and various project deliverables.
• Assume responsible oversight when appropriate based on licensure, project role, and client needs.
• Coordinate scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality expectations, and delivery commitments with project managers and task leaders.
• Address technical challenges and facilitate prompt project decisions.
• Create project-related development opportunities for engineers.
• Lead, mentor, and support transportation professionals through individual meetings, career discussions, goal-setting, and performance evaluations.
• Clarify priorities, workload, expectations, and decisions for team members.
• Promote quality, accountability, training, continuous improvement, and practical innovation.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
• Manage workload, assist in achieving utilization goals, and align staff with project opportunities.
• Cultivate future technical and project leadership.
• Maintain and enhance client relationships with CDOT, local agencies, and internal client-facing leaders.
• Engage in pursuits and proposals through technical strategies, staffing plans, project examples, risk identification, quality review planning, and CDOT-specific considerations.
• Collaborate with account managers, project managers, marketing, and technical leaders on transportation opportunities in Colorado and surrounding markets.
• Enhance tools, processes, communication routines, and operational practices.
• Contribute to business performance through workload awareness, project execution, quality leadership, and financial insight.
• Report to an Associate Director and work in partnership with project managers, task leaders, subject matter experts, account managers, marketing, and shared services.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related field is mandatory.
• At least 8+ years of experience in transportation engineering, roadway design, traffic, planning, construction, or a closely related field is essential.
• Civil Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.
• PTOE, AICP, or other relevant professional credentials may be considered based on background and role fit.
• Experience supporting CDOT, local agency, county, municipal, or similar public transportation clients is advantageous.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects while mentoring and developing team members.
• Interest in a seller-doer leadership approach, encompassing billable project delivery, client engagement, proposal support, and business development activities.
• Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to explain decisions, provide clear feedback, and navigate challenging conversations constructively.
• Practical understanding of transportation project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring the team remains focused, organized, and supported.
• Strong judgment, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
• Experience collaborating with project managers, technical staff, clients, public agencies, and internal business partners.
• Proven proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with transportation design software and related technical tools is preferred based on discipline and project requirements.
