Technical Lead, Applications, Artificial Intelligence – AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the application engineering strategy and implementation across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms.

• Lead and develop a small, experienced applications team, including engineers specializing in backend, mobile, and desktop technologies.

• Ensure production-level reliability through observability, monitoring, retries, fallbacks, and effective failure handling.

• Define the architectural vision for AI-driven product workflows, APIs, and client integrations.

• Guarantee the integration of AI capabilities into the product with clear abstractions, predictable behavior, and smooth failure responses.

• Collaborate closely with Machine Learning (ML) leadership to convert model capabilities into deployable product features.

• Make influential decisions regarding latency, cost, reliability, security, and user experience.

• Foster a strong execution culture through code and design reviews, alongside hands-on technical leadership.

• Ensure production readiness by focusing on observability, monitoring, retries, fallbacks, privacy, and budget management.

• Balance the need for speed with discipline, delivering quickly without sacrificing long-term system integrity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading application or product engineering for complex systems.

• Proven background in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a must.

• Strong hands-on experience in building and deploying backend systems in a production environment.

• Experience in delivering AI-powered products, with a comprehensive understanding of model integration trade-offs.

• Exceptional system design abilities across services, APIs, clients, and data flows.

• Comfortable operating across various platforms (backend, mobile, desktop), even if your expertise lies primarily in one.

• Demonstrated capability to make significant technical decisions amidst uncertainty.

• A strong inclination toward shipping, iterating, and learning from real-world application.

• Ability to move quickly without compromising foundational principles.
