Technical Director – AI Decision Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Lead a cross-functional delivery team that encompasses product, design, engineering, data, AI, analytics, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and quality.

• Take ownership of technical strategy, architecture, execution, and delivery from the discovery phase to operational deployment.

• Convert mission requirements and product priorities into clear technical plans, release goals, and engineering decisions.

• Integrate software, data, AI, infrastructure, security, and quality into a cohesive system.

• Build, mentor, and expand a high-performing technical organization.

• Make decisions regarding architecture, integration, tooling, and delivery, balancing considerations of speed, security, quality, and maintainability.

• Identify and mitigate technical risks, dependencies, and uncertainties before they affect delivery.

• Collaborate with customers, product leadership, and external stakeholders.

• Stay technically engaged enough to challenge assumptions, review designs, and tackle complex problems.

• Deliver an AI-enabled decision-support capability for the federal government from inception to completion.

• Ensure that releases are secure, explainable, operational, trusted, maintainable, and sustainable.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven success in software engineering, AI/ML, data systems, analytics, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, product technology, or a similar technical field.

• Experience in leading intricate technical projects across various teams and specialties.

• Demonstrated capability to transform ambiguity into functional systems and measurable results.

• Strong systems thinking, communication abilities, and leadership judgment.

• Experience in delivering cloud-native software from concept through to deployment and operations.

• US Citizenship is required.

• Must hold in-scope US Secret clearance.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% to customer sites, DEFCON AI HQ, and vendor facilities as necessary.

• Preferred: Active Top Secret clearance.

• Preferred: Experience in leading a zero-to-one product, platform, or mission capability.

• Preferred: Experience in delivering technology within defense, intelligence, federal, or similarly regulated sectors.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AWS GovCloud, DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and secure cloud delivery.

• Preferred: Experience supporting RMF, ATO, accreditation, or similar security processes.

• Preferred: Knowledge in AI/ML, large language models, analytics, graph technologies, or data-intensive systems.

• Preferred: Experience in building human-in-the-loop decision-support systems and explainable AI capabilities.

• Preferred: Collaboration experience with product and design teams to deliver user-focused software.

• Preferred: Experience in hiring, mentoring, and structuring technical teams during periods of rapid growth.

• Preferred: Experience in integrating third-party, partner, or subcontractor-delivered capabilities into a cohesive solution.
