Technical Co-founder – CTO, AI Staffing Platform for Law Firms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Initiate the initial lines of production code, define the technical direction, and oversee the execution from start to finish.

• Strengthen Ava's voice and workflow systems to ensure reliability in production. Set standards for core architecture, observability, and audit trails.

• Develop the internal infrastructure that empowers the team to configure, monitor, and enhance AI performance without increasing the engineering workforce.

• Manage the balance between AI quality and cost-per-call, ensuring unit economics align with the $499/month pricing model.

• Act as the company's representative in discussions with lawyers, partners, and investors, serving as the technical voice of the venture.

• Transform pilots into paying customers, broaden the AI team beyond front desk functions, and initiate a trajectory towards custom and self-hosted models where legal and privacy constraints necessitate it.

• Recruit and lead the founding engineering team while establishing the cultural foundation of the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in deploying LLM-powered and voice systems in production environments where incorrect outputs had significant implications.

• Proficiency across the full stack involving applied LLMs, real-time voice and conversational AI, telephony, human-in-the-loop workflows, observability, and secure multi-tenant SaaS.

• Well-established beliefs regarding reliability engineering, edge-case management, and the compromises between AI quality and cost-per-call.

• Background in creating managed and service-heavy platforms, with the ability to scale delivery while keeping engineering headcount stable.

• Ready to function as a principal — including the willingness to say "this won't scale" or "this isn't ready" when product integrity is at stake.

• Strongly preferred: previous experience as a founder or in early-stage technical leadership; a background in legal tech, healthcare, or another trust-sensitive sector; ability to self-host custom models to comply with legal and privacy requirements.
