Technical Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Create, prototype, and execute stylized materials and surface shaders within Unreal Engine.

• Partner with Concept Artists and 3D teams to convert the game’s visual identity into real-time materials.

• Enhance material performance across various platforms, paying particular attention to console constraints.

• Develop and sustain a modular, scalable material system that enables artists and minimizes overhead.

• Diagnose and resolve material-related challenges within the engine.

• Document material systems and provide guidance to artists on best practices and performance budgeting.

• Contribute to visual development and R&D initiatives that advance aesthetic boundaries.

• Collaborate closely with VFX, lighting, and technical art teams to produce visually cohesive and efficient environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in the gaming industry.

• In-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine’s material editor and shader pipeline (including custom nodes and parameterization).

• Strong comprehension of PBR workflows, stylized rendering, and real-time lighting.

• Proficiency with HLSL, node-based shader development, and performance debugging tools (such as RenderDoc and Unreal Insights).

• Solid understanding of GPU performance and principles of platform optimization.

• Familiarity with DCC tools (including Maya, Blender, Houdini, Substance Painter, etc.).

• Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

• Self-driven, organized, and capable of working independently.
