This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee motion projects from initial concept to final output, including product videos, explainers, animations for product launches, social media content, podcasts, and visuals for events.
• Take full ownership of the pre-production phase: ideation and storyboarding concepts into distinct motion sequences before any animation begins.
• Convert intricate or technical ideas into concise and engaging narratives that are easily comprehensible and memorable for a diverse audience.
• Provide motion assets tailored for web use — ensuring outputs are optimized, utilizing suitable file formats, and delivering clear specifications for smooth transitions from production to browser without quality degradation or the need for rework.
• Contribute to event materials for live conferences, including visuals for the main stage, screen content, ambient loops, and branded motion highlights.
• Edit video footage into refined, on-brand deliverables (no filming required).
• Develop and enhance Lumin’s motion design system, establishing principles, behaviors, and templates that ensure consistency and serve as a foundation for others.
• Clearly present work to non-designers, effectively communicating creative rationale to engage stakeholders.
• Actively investigate and implement animation and AI tools in the motion workflow — utilizing platforms like Jitter, Cavalry, Runway, Adobe Firefly Video, and Pika — to broaden possibilities and enhance efficiency.
• Assist with digital design requirements, including presentations in Google Slides and select marketing assets in Figma.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as needed.
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Film, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 6-8 years of experience in motion design within an agency or B2B SaaS in-house creative team.
• A portfolio showcasing a diverse range of brand, product, and narrative motion work — a demo reel or portfolio link is essential for consideration for this position.
• Demonstrated capability to manage motion projects from inception to completion — not merely executing within a predetermined framework.
• Experience in creating or significantly contributing to a motion design system or brand language.
• Proficient in storyboarding and directing motion work, beyond just production.
• Expert-level skills in After Effects and Premiere Pro.
• Experience in delivering motion for web platforms — understanding the challenges between creation and deployment, with expertise in file formats, compression, and developer handoff to ensure the final output appears correctly.
• Solid skills in Figma — utilized daily rather than occasionally.
• Strong pre-production skills — focusing on concept development and storyboarding prior to animation.
• Clear and proactive communication skills; ability to present creative work to non-designers and articulate design thinking effectively.
• Actively integrates AI tools within the motion workflow — familiar with tools like Runway, Adobe Firefly Video, or Pika, having already utilized AI in completed projects, and understands its strengths and limitations.
• A genuine interest in the future of motion design — proactively exploring upcoming trends rather than waiting for direction.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a fully remote setting.
• A low-ego collaborator who can iterate gracefully and elevate the quality of work without causing friction.
• Nice to have: Proficiency in Google Slides for presentation design and animations.
• Nice to have: Experience in designing for large-format event displays or live conference settings.
• Nice to have: Background in B2B SaaS or the complex technology product sector.
• Nice to have: Experience in creating templates or workflows that empower non-motion designers to work confidently with animation.
• Travel: Minimal, generally 12 days or fewer per year, with approximately two team gatherings annually.
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
• A 401(k) with company matching.
• Flexible paid time off plus 12 paid holidays.
• Paid sick leave.
• Paid parental and family leave.
• Lifestyle spending account.
• Tuition reimbursement.
• Cell phone stipend.
