This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Technical Account Executives are responsible for establishing the initial connection with customers who reach out through the website and prefer to converse with a representative before registering with PostHog. As this is an early-stage opportunity, you will engage with a diverse range of customers, from fast-paced startups to more intricate strategic collaborations with Mid-Market and Enterprise clients.
• Generating new business is key. You'll navigate to the appropriate contacts at potential clients — such as engineers, product managers, and founders — and demonstrate why PostHog is superior to their current solutions. You will manage the entire sales process, from the first call to closing and beyond, while confidently meeting and surpassing quarterly targets.
• You will be responsible for gathering customer feedback and ensuring it reaches the broader PostHog team. Collaboration with product teams is essential, as we foster a non-bureaucratic environment.
• Being extremely responsive is crucial. You should feel like an integral part of the customer’s team. We aim to conduct most customer communications via Slack.
• Mastery of all PostHog products is necessary, enabling you to help customers recognize their value and facilitate their adoption.
• You should be comfortable with outbound efforts. Your ability to secure meetings should stem from relevance and creativity rather than sheer volume and pressure. We employ unconventional outbound strategies.
• You must adeptly switch contexts. For instance, you might prospect and qualify leads in the morning, evaluate enterprise opportunities in the afternoon, and respond asynchronously to customer inquiries in between. Adjusting your tone, depth, and approach for each situation without sacrificing quality is essential.
• You should convert both inbound and outbound lead flows into a robust pipeline that generates results. Many individuals may contact us, but not all will translate into deals. You need to quickly discern which prospects are a good fit for PostHog and efficiently close those opportunities.
• You should possess a deep understanding of PostHog’s products, including technical features like feature flags and data warehouses. While you don't need to be a developer, familiarity with the details will boost your confidence and enhance the value you provide in customer discussions. For instance, advising on configuration best practices for companies with multiple products and applications is essential.
• You should have a commercially-minded perspective. Your enthusiasm should extend beyond helping customers transition from 0 to 1 with PostHog to also fostering revenue growth and retention. If a customer has never been contacted before, you’ll need to think creatively to engage them.
• A strong customer focus is imperative. Your role involves assisting users and eliminating any hurdles that hinder their effective use of PostHog.
• You should excel at managing relationships strategically. This involves helping customers achieve their objectives over time, increasing their usage, and encouraging them to purchase more products from us while declining customers who are not a good match.
• Proficient writing skills are necessary. As a remote-first and async-default company, you’ll need to draft follow-up emails, Slack summaries, evaluation plans, and Loom scripts. Clear communication is critical to keeping both customers and your team informed.
• Experience in managing a book of business or leading complex deal cycles across various technical organizations, including legal and procurement, is essential.
• Transparency: Everyone has access to our roadmap, compensation practices, employee management processes, strategic direction, and operational methods through our public company handbook. Internally, we share revenue figures, notes, and presentations from board meetings, as well as fundraising plans, ensuring everyone has the context needed to make informed decisions.
• Autonomy: We empower individuals to decide what to work on next based on the potential impact on our customers and their own interests and motivations. Engineers lead product teams and make product-related decisions. Teams are adaptable and can be restructured as necessary.
• Fast-paced shipping: We encourage immediate action. Our goal is to develop numerous products, which necessitates a rapid shipping pace. The company is built around small, autonomous, and highly efficient teams that can outpace larger companies because they own their products from start to finish.
• Time for building: Meetings do not lead to shipping products. As a natively remote organization, we prioritize asynchronous communication – opting for PRs, Issues, and Slack over meetings. Tuesdays and Thursdays are designated as meeting-free days, allowing us to prioritize focused building time over meticulous coordination. This role will offer you unparalleled productivity.
• Ambition: We aspire to tackle significant challenges. We firmly believe that aiming for the highest possible outcomes, even if we sometimes fall short, is preferable to not trying at all. Our optimism fuels our belief in what is achievable and our capacity to reach those goals.
• Embracing uniqueness: Being unconventional means reimagining our already outstanding website for the fifth time, launching every product associated with customer data, and creating a developer toy with questionable shareholder value. Engaging in unconventional activities serves as a competitive advantage and is genuinely enjoyable.
