Tech Lead – Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical direction for the real-time detection platform, encompassing streaming, storage, and the training pipelines that support it.

• Convert product and engineering roadmaps into precise technical plans, milestones, and execution priorities.

• Proactively pinpoint technical risks, dependencies, and trade-offs before they influence delivery.

• Lead design and architecture evaluations, make informed technical trade-off decisions, and document the rationale behind significant choices.

• Remain hands-on by writing code, reviewing others’ code, troubleshooting issues, and assisting the team during production incidents.

• Guide engineers to elevate standards for system design, code quality, operational excellence, and technical execution.

• Manage the operational health of the platform, focusing on alert quality, on-call workload, incident follow-through, and root-cause analysis.

• Collaborate directly with Product, TAM, and customer-facing teams on customer-impacting matters, ensuring clear impact evaluation, prioritization, ownership, and next steps.

• Define the utilization of AI agents and AI-assisted tools within engineering workflows, including verification standards and safe usage practices.

• Develop, assess, and enhance LLM- and agent-assisted tools for engineering and operational applications, such as triage, root-cause analysis, alert summarization, and evaluation harnesses.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software development.

• At least 2 years of technical leadership experience in roles such as tech lead, staff engineer, engineering manager, or similar positions.

• Proven capability to drive technical results across a team, including work that you did not personally execute.

• Extensive production experience with Java, alongside working proficiency in Python and Shell scripting.

• Experience in designing, building, deploying, and managing distributed real-time systems at scale.

• Strong understanding of computer systems, relational databases, and SQL.

• Experience in building and optimizing multithreaded and concurrent applications.

• Practical experience with Cassandra, Yugabyte, Flink, Spark, or Kafka.

• Familiarity with the Spring Framework.

• Demonstrated use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools in real-world production environments.

• Ability to establish team-level standards for AI-assisted engineering, including tool usage, output verification, and criteria for rejecting AI-generated suggestions.

• Strong verification discipline, capable of validating model outputs against source code, logs, documentation, and production behavior.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is mandatory.

• EU Citizenship or Ireland Permanent Residency is required.

• Experience in fraud, risk, payments, financial services, or any domain where false negatives can significantly impact business or customers.

• Experience in managing ML platforms or large-scale training pipelines.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes.

• Experience in building with LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool calling, RAG, or MCP.

• Experience in writing evaluations or regression tests for non-deterministic systems.

• Experience in hiring, managing, or mentoring engineers.

• Experience with test-driven development.
