This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Assess borrower applications by reviewing income documentation, credit bureau information, and property details to evaluate the overall strength and completeness of the file prior to submission.
• Analyze various types of income, including salaried, hourly, and self-employed or declared income, utilizing supporting documents such as bank statements, Notices of Assessment (NOAs), and financial statements.
• Match application details with lender guidelines to determine eligibility and identify potential issues early in the process.
• Suggest suitable lenders and deal structures based on the borrower’s profile, income type, credit strength, and overall risk assessment.
• Detect inconsistencies, missing documentation, or potential deal-breakers early in the process and collaborate with agents to resolve gaps before submission.
• Ensure that files are complete, coherent, and ready for submission, accompanied by a clear narrative for the lender.
• Collaborate closely with mortgage agents to clarify missing information, verify details, and steer files towards a clean and complete submission.
• Assist in preparing lender submissions via platforms like Velocity or Filogix, ensuring that all documentation and notes are accurate and consistent.
• Communicate with lenders to verify requirements, answer questions, and facilitate the efficient progression of files.
• Review and interpret lender conditions comprehensively, ensuring agents are aware of requirements and the subsequent steps.
• Proactively follow up on outstanding items to maintain file momentum and prevent delays.
• Deliver concise, accurate, and prompt communication to both agents and lenders, ensuring alignment and reducing back-and-forth correspondence.
• Ensure that all files comply with FSRA regulations and brokerage standards.
• Aid in the verification of borrower identity, employment, and financial profiles to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Stay informed about Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements and escalate any inconsistencies, red flags, or unusual activities as necessary.
• Examine documentation for consistency, completeness, and authenticity, identifying discrepancies in income, credit, and application details.
• Maintain a high level of diligence when reviewing documents to help mitigate potential mortgage fraud or misrepresentation.
• Ensure all notes, documents, and file updates are recorded clearly and organized for internal tracking and potential audits.
• Adhere to internal workflows, checklists, and documentation standards to ensure uniformity across all files.
• 1-3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting within a brokerage or lender setting.
• Experience collaborating with multiple lenders in a brokerage environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian mortgage products, lender guidelines, and compliance regulations.
• Familiarity with self-employed borrowers, including income assessment and declaration-based files.
• Proficient in using Velocity, Filogix, or similar mortgage submission platforms.
• Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Gmail) or comparable tools.
• Strong understanding of FINTRAC, AML, and mortgage compliance requirements.
• Exceptional attention to detail with a strong emphasis on documentation accuracy and the completeness of files.
• Excellent communication and active listening skills, especially when interacting with agents.
• Capability to manage multiple files in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
• Highly organized, proactive, and solution-driven.
