This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Invite, edit, and publish Perspectives on a weekly basis in Science.

• Manage the peer-review process for “stand alone” Perspectives.

• Oversee Expert Voices columns and potentially other opinion pieces.

• Collaborate with social and multimedia teams to effectively communicate scientific concepts.

• Engage with the scientific community to pinpoint topics and authors for Perspectives.

• Contribute to various sections of the magazine, including special issues and “In Other Journals.”

⛳️ Requirements

• A PhD and postdoctoral research experience in a relevant discipline.

• A minimum of five years of experience as a commissioning editor.

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commission commentary.

• Proficiency with publishing and editing software (MS Office, Adobe Professional).

• In-depth knowledge of scientific research methodologies.

• Outstanding outreach skills to identify and recruit top authors for the journal.

• Exceptional written, verbal communication, and listening abilities.

• Proven capability to work efficiently under competing deadlines.

• Excellent editing skills to ensure high-quality writing standards.

• Understanding of best practices in commissioning and peer review processes.
