This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
β’ Take charge of the comprehensive tax function, encompassing compliance, basic advisory services, and responses to IRS/state notices for both individual and business clients.
β’ Act as the firmβs primary tax relationship manager, ensuring clients perceive you as a trusted tax advisor rather than merely a preparer.
β’ Work collaboratively with financial advisors and ownership to provide a fully integrated experience for clients across planning and tax.
β’ Oversee relationships with external vendors for complex returns, ensuring smooth coordination and maintaining quality control.
β’ Establish the internal infrastructure β processes, workflows, and standards β necessary for a tax practice being developed from the ground up.
β’ Independently lead client meetings on all tax-related matters; engage confidently in any advisory discussions.
β’ Keep up-to-date with equity compensation taxation, including RSUs, PSUs, NQSOs, ISOs, and associated planning considerations.
β’ Actively contribute to leadership discussions as the practice expands; this role will involve making essential decisions from the outset.
β’ Mentor and develop junior staff as the team grows.
β’ CPA or EA certification is mandatory.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of tax experience within a public accounting firm, showcasing expertise in individual and business owner tax compliance.
β’ Proven experience in managing client relationships at a senior level; comfortable representing the tax function.
β’ Strong preference for a solid background in equity compensation taxation (RSUs, PSUs, stock options).
β’ Demonstrated ability to develop β processes, client relationships, and a practice β rather than just maintaining existing ones.
β’ Experience in supervising or mentoring staff, even in informal settings.
β’ Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients without financial backgrounds.
