This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine, +2 more states.
• Provide strategic guidance for the internal tax operations of the firm.
• Lead initiatives in tax compliance, planning, reporting, research, and risk management.
• Keep abreast of tax legislation and regulatory changes, offering advice to firm leadership.
• Supervise compliance with sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect taxes.
• Oversee the preparation and submission of federal, state, local, and other mandatory tax returns.
• Manage partnership tax issues, including allocations, distributions, capital accounts, basis calculations, and related reporting.
• Provide guidance to Finance and firm leadership on intricate tax matters, regulatory updates, planning opportunities, and potential risks.
• Develop and uphold tax policies, procedures, controls, calendars, and documentation standards.
• Supervise multi-state tax compliance, which includes registrations, filings, estimated payments, and notifications.
• Direct tax forecasting, quarterly provisions, estimated tax planning, and ongoing tax reporting.
• Handle responses to inquiries, audits, notices, and information requests from tax authorities.
• Assess tax implications related to business decisions, ownership changes, transactions, and operational adjustments.
• Cultivate, mentor, and lead tax team members along with supporting Finance personnel.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and performance feedback to members of the tax team.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
• A Master’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
• CPA designation is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tax.
• Substantial experience in partnership taxation, individual taxation, and multi-state compliance.
• Proven experience in leading tax strategy, compliance, planning, and risk management in a complex organization or professional services setting.
• Capability to advise senior leadership on complex tax issues and to translate technical tax concepts into actionable business guidance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Advanced technical expertise in tax.
• Strong strategic thinking, sound judgment, and a robust risk management perspective.
• Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Proficient in tax preparation software, research tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Minimal travel required, less than 10% annually.
