This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Analyze and document business requirements related to cost basis processing, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance.
• Act as a subject matter expert on cost basis regulations for equities, mutual funds, fixed income, and options.
• Convert IRS regulations, tax guidance, and industry rules into business requirements, functional specifications, and process enhancements.
• Collaborate with compliance, tax, operations, and technology teams regarding regulatory and tax-driven modifications.
• Assess processes to uncover gaps, risks, control issues, opportunities for automation, and improvements in efficiency.
• Assist in system enhancements for cost basis calculations, wash sales, corporate actions, transfers and ACATS activity, tax lot accounting, and reporting on covered/non-covered securities.
• Develop business requirements documents, functional specifications, process flows, test cases, and user stories.
• Lead or assist in UAT, regression testing, and validation efforts.
• Investigate production issues, discrepancies, and tax reporting anomalies.
• Work together on data quality, lineage, reconciliation, and controls.
• Provide support for regulatory and internal audits as well as compliance reviews.
• Keep track of regulatory developments and inform stakeholders of their implications.
• Establish process controls and governance frameworks.
• Deliver stakeholder updates, status reports, and track issues.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
• Over 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst in financial services, brokerage, wealth management, asset servicing, or tax operations.
• Extensive knowledge of cost basis accounting and tax lot processing.
• Familiarity with covered and non-covered securities, IRS cost basis regulations, Form 1099-B reporting, wash sale rules, corporate actions, and securities transfers.
• Understanding of broker-dealer operations, post-trade processing, custody, and securities lifecycle events.
• Proven experience in translating regulatory requirements into business and system specifications.
• Competence in gap analysis, process mapping, root cause analysis, and impact assessments.
• Experience in UAT, defect management, test planning, and validating financial/tax reporting systems.
• Ability to handle large datasets, perform reconciliations, and conduct exception analysis.
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery methodologies.
• Proficiency in SQL, Excel, JIRA, Confluence, Visio, or similar tools.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven context.
• Experience with cost basis platforms, brokerage back-office systems, or tax reporting systems is advantageous.
• Knowledge of ACATS, DTCC processing, corporate actions, and securities reference data is beneficial.
• Professional certifications such as CBAP, PMP, CPA, or CFA are a plus.
• Experience with enterprise transformation or modernization initiatives is a nice addition.
