This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers hosted in AWS within a diverse distribution environment, including Amazon Linux 2023, Ubuntu 22.04 and later, as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9.
• Identify and resolve intricate issues related to operating systems, networking, storage, and performance across the server network.
• Provide performance-driven recommendations for server configuration modifications to enhance workloads, reduce costs, and improve reliability.
• Support and manage Linux-based virtual desktop environments operating on VMware and AWS WorkSpaces.
• Collaborate with end users and application teams to guarantee a secure, stable, and productive virtual desktop experience.
• Create, implement, and sustain Linux operating system baselines in line with Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmarks.
• Work together with application owners to customize security baselines as necessary to maintain application functionality without jeopardizing the organization's security posture.
• Conduct enterprise-wide configuration management utilizing Ansible.
• Write, maintain, and version-control Ansible playbooks that define system baselines, configurations, and repeatable operational tasks.
• Collaborate directly with application owners, developers, and analytics engineers to deploy, upgrade, migrate, and sustain applications operating on Linux.
• Act as a trusted infrastructure partner during application lifecycle events, offering insights on Linux best practices.
• Develop and uphold monitoring solutions for servers throughout the enterprise to ensure optimal system uptime and prompt incident detection.
• Continuously enhance alerting, dashboards, and observability to minimize downtime.
• Supervise regular and ad-hoc system patching initiatives to ensure timely remediation of vulnerabilities in alignment with organizational SLAs.
• Monitor and enforce patching mandates using AWS Systems Manager.
• Deploy and manage infrastructure via AWS CloudFormation and AWS Service Catalog.
• Contribute to and maintain reusable, standardized infrastructure templates that facilitate provisioning and ensure compliance.
• A minimum of 3 years of direct experience managing Linux systems in a production setting.
• At least 2 years of experience in configuration management using Ansible, including the creation and maintenance of playbooks and roles.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience supporting Linux virtual desktops.
• Proven experience in a large government, financial, regulatory, or corporate environment where formal change management, security compliance, and audit requirements are commonplace.
• A Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Experience in supporting analytics infrastructure, such as Hadoop clusters, AWS EMR, HPC grid clusters using SLURM, AWS Parallel Cluster, or other distributed computing platforms.
• Experience managing VMware virtual desktops or AWS WorkSpaces at scale.
• Proficient in Python for automation, scripting, and tooling development.
• Must be a US citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Available for D.C or remote work.
