Systems Engineer – AIX, IBM Power Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Execute system installations, upgrades, patching, and performance optimization.

• Oversee logical partitions (LPARs) utilizing PowerVM/VIOS.

• Develop and support high availability solutions (PowerHA / HACMP).

• Manage storage integration (SAN, NPIV, MPIO) and backup systems.

• Expertise in AIX system internals, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with backup and recovery tools (e.g., BRMS, TSM/Spectrum Protect).

• Administer, configure, and uphold IBM AIX operating systems on IBM Power Systems.

• Monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and execute corrective measures.

• Ensure compliance with system security, including patch management and auditing.

• Automate routine administrative tasks through shell scripting (ksh/bash).

• Collaborate with application, database, and network teams to support enterprise platforms.

• Maintain thorough documentation for system configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions.

• Manage the ServiceNow ticket queue.

• Participate in on-call rotation for production support as necessary.

• Act as the primary contact for team projects when required, including scheduling, documentation, ticket approvals, etc.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with IBM Power Systems hardware and virtualization (PowerVM, VIOS).

• Proficiency with PowerHA.

• Familiarity with enterprise storage technologies (SAN, IBM Storwize, etc.).

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Over 5 years of practical experience in IBM AIX system administration.

• IBM certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX).

• Experience with NIM (Network Installation Manager).

• Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards.

• Exposure to cloud integration or hybrid infrastructure.

• Experience with monitoring tools (Galileo, iDoctor, PerfNav, etc.).

• Familiarity with DevOps practices and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).

• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux shell scripting.
