System Engineer – Linux

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Administer, maintain, and provide support for ACF Linux server environments, which include Amazon Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

• Construct, configure, and sustain custom Linux images/AMIs for consistent deployment across various environments.

• Execute system patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management to uphold security and compliance standards.

• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive maintenance to ensure optimal availability.

• Automate system administration tasks using scripting tools such as Bash, Python, and Ansible.

• Oversee system security configurations, hardening, and ensure compliance with federal standards (NIST, FISMA, STIGs).

• Assist in vulnerability remediation efforts within Linux server environments.

• Collaborate with DevOps, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to facilitate deployments and system integrations.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation for server configurations, custom images, and standard operating procedures.

• Partner with Program Management to assist with contract deliverables and reporting obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–10 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or Linux Administrator.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Amazon Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

• Proven experience in building and maintaining custom Linux images.

• Familiarity with system patching, hardening, and compliance (STIGs, NIST, FISMA).

• Strong skills in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar).

• Experience in troubleshooting server performance and infrastructure challenges.

• Capability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to function effectively in a fully remote, distributed team setting.

• U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. (as per contract requirements).
