System Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Operate, configure, and enhance approximately 50 × 4 application server instances (JBoss, Apache, Tomcat)—this role does not involve VM and OS operations.

• Oversee deployments, connectors, datasources, clustering, load balancing, and SSL certificates.

• Analyze incidents and deliver 2nd and 3rd level support—including log analysis, heap dumps, and stack traces.

• Read and interpret Java code to troubleshoot environment-related issues in collaboration with the Java Developer.

• Collaborate with the Linux team regarding maintenance windows, VM sizing, and cross-layer troubleshooting.

• Lead automation and scripting initiatives to enhance application server operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience as a System Engineer with a strong emphasis on application servers (JBoss / WildFly, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat).

• In-depth knowledge of middleware configuration, logging, performance, security, and clustering.

• Solid Linux skills and scripting expertise (Bash, Python, Ansible) for automation at the application server level—VM and OS administration are not required.

• Basic Java skills—capable of reading and understanding code without being a developer.

• Experience with monitoring tools, logging stacks, and performance analysis.

• Business proficiency in English.

• Familiarity with enterprise security concepts (WAF, IAM, LDAP, SAML) is a plus.

• Experience with firewall rules and network architectures is advantageous.

• Knowledge of Azure / Cloud Platforms is a plus.

• Proficiency in German is an asset.
