Surgical Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Ensure compliance with coding standards, maintain accurate documentation, and adhere to established coding regulations.

• Assign diagnosis codes (ICD-10) and procedure codes (CPT/HCPCS) to patient encounters based on the provided medical documentation.

• Uphold compliance with AMA, CMS, and other relevant coding regulations.

• Review medical records, physician notes, laboratory results, radiology reports, and operative reports for accurate coding.

• Maintain precision and quality in coding assignments to facilitate reimbursement and reduce claim denials.

• Utilize coding software, encoders, and electronic health record systems effectively.

• Engage in coding audits, reviews, and initiatives to enhance documentation.

• Monitor coding productivity, accuracy rates, and issues related to coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

• An Associate's Degree in Medical Billing and Coding is preferred.

• Certification as a Professional Coder from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) is preferred.

• 3-5 years of experience in medical coding is required.

• In-depth understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and their application in hospital billing.

• Familiarity with coding guidelines and regulations from AMA, CMS, and other pertinent organizations.

• Strong analytical skills along with meticulous attention to detail.

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to work independently, manage tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
