Supalite Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Enhance API compatibility with the Supabase client, ensuring behavior aligns with hosted Supabase and supported by conformance testing.

• Expand the Supabase stack capabilities to SQLite.

• Develop and fortify the upgrade pathway from Supabase Lite to the full Supabase.

• Take ownership of the developer experience from start to finish: including the CLI, local tools, and documentation.

• Construct and strengthen the hosted offering on a scale-to-zero, near-zero-cost basis, maintaining a loosely coupled architecture so that the implementation can be changed without requiring a complete rewrite.

• Collaborate directly with design partners to transform real-world migration and integration challenges into a more refined product.

• Engage with the open-source community and contribute to the broader Supabase ecosystem.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess significant backend or full-stack experience with a strong proficiency in TypeScript, having built or contributed to a backend system, framework, or developer platform in the past.

• Be a versatile generalist, adept at navigating the stack from API design to storage internals and infrastructure, and able to tackle whatever issues arise.

• Read and understand unfamiliar code without difficulty.

• Have a firm foundation in SQL and relational databases, with the curiosity to explore the differences between Postgres and SQLite.

• Maintain a focus on compatibility and correctness, utilizing tests and specifications to validate behavior.

• Anticipate challenges and think ahead.

• Value developer experience: striving for clean APIs, rapid feedback loops, and tools that facilitate the right actions effortlessly.

• Be comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous, early-stage tasks and making informed decisions that shape and define the specifications.

• Work effectively in public repositories as part of a remote, asynchronous team.

• Communicate clearly in writing.

• Bonus: familiarity with the Supabase stack, experience in building developer CLIs, or a history of contributing to open-source maintenance.
