This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Working from a secure and distraction-free home office, certified Substitute Teachers will provide virtual support for the learning programs at Connections Academy schools nationwide.
• Utilizing the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools, the Substitute Teacher will frequently consult with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
• The Washington Special Education Substitute Teacher will serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during periods of short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with the average assignment lasting 8 to 12 weeks.
• While on assignment, be available online to students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone to:
• Communicate regularly with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.
• Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences promptly as instructed by the school.
• Support the instructional program through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and help with daily assignments and projects.
• Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and student logs.
• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to ensure individual student needs are met, providing regular updates on student behaviors and classroom activities.
• When not on assignment, actively monitor email to stay informed of upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.
• Meet at least once a month with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software, whether on or off assignment.
• Participate in required professional learning targeted at individual needs throughout the year.
• Maintain active certifications.
• Substitutes must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.
• Holding multiple state certifications is a plus.
• Ability to obtain certification in other states as needed.
• Ability to acquire additional clearances as requested.
• A bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• Must maintain a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment where all business activities will take place.
• When assigned, must be available Monday through Friday during designated school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone) for long-term assignments.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting.
• Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong time management and organizational abilities.
• Proven dedication to student achievement.
• Strong technology skills (experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps preferred).
• Reliable, high-speed internet access is required.
• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is necessary (PC preferred).
• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player.
• Cannot provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements must be established.
• Cannot hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.
• Complete required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year.

• Eligible new hires will receive a $2,000 sign-on bonus after 60 days of employment.
