This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Working from your secure and distraction-free home office, certified Special Education Substitutes will provide virtual support for the learning program to students in Connections Academy schools nationwide.
• Engage regularly with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
• Participate in all phases of the IEP process, from data analysis to the delivery and monitoring of the IEP, depending on the assigned school.
• Collaborate closely with teachers and school professionals to ensure the success of the assigned school’s special education program while adhering to federal and state regulations.
• Utilize the online classroom (LiveLesson) to conduct virtual small group or individual instruction.
• Serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically lasting between 2-20 weeks, with an average assignment duration of 8-12 weeks.
• When assigned, be available online for students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone to: communicate regularly with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update individualized learning plans, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.
• Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences promptly as instructed by the school.
• Enhance the instructional program through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
• Collaborate with a team of teachers to ensure that all students on the team’s caseload are progressing successfully through the program.
• Case manage a group of students, writing and delivering IEPs, and providing direct services as directed by the school.
• Work in conjunction with general education teachers to ensure that IEP goals and accommodations are met, providing students with a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, and support daily assignments and projects.
• Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and student logs.
• When not on assignment, actively monitor email to stay informed of upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.
• Meet at least monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software, regardless of assignment status.
• Complete required professional learning tailored to individual needs throughout the year.
• Maintain active certifications.
• Special education substitutes must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification in special education.
• Experience in special education instruction is preferred.
• Multiple state certifications are a plus.
• Ability to obtain certification in additional states as needed.
• Ability to secure additional clearances as requested.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• Must maintain a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment for all business activities.
• When on assignment, must be available Monday through Friday during assigned school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Ability to write and monitor IEP plans and a willingness to learn to do so using various software.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective prioritization of tasks, self-direction, and creativity.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting.
• Excellent attention to detail, along with strong time management and organizational skills.
• Proven commitment to student achievement.
• Strong technology skills, with experience in learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps preferred.
• Reliable, high-speed internet access is a must.
• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).
• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player.
• Must not provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements must be made.
• Must not hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.
• Complete required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year.
