
Substitute Teacher – Special Education

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Assist in delivering the learning program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.
• Regularly consult with students, Learning Coaches, and school staff to ensure each child successfully completes their instructional program.
• Serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies.
• Be available online to students, parents, and school personnel from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm local time.
• Maintain regular communication with parents, students, and other educators to develop and update personalized learning plans and schedules.
• Provide constructive feedback on student assignments, recommend instructional methods and strategies, monitor assignment completion, and validate student learning.
• Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner as directed by the school.
• Support the instructional program through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
• Keep student records and data current, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs.
• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to meet individual student needs.
• Offer regular updates on student behavior and classroom activities.
• Routinely check email to stay informed about upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.
• Meet at least monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor using video conferencing software.
• Engage in required professional learning targeted at individual needs throughout the year.
• Maintain current certifications.
• Substitutes must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.
• Ability to obtain certification in additional states as requested.
• Capability to secure additional clearances as needed.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual context.
• Strong attention to detail, along with excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to student success.
• Proficient technology skills (experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps is preferred).
• Access to reliable, high-speed internet.
• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).
• New hires who are eligible will receive a $2,000 sign-on bonus after 60 days of employment.
