This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Certified Substitute Teachers will provide virtual support for the learning programs of students in Connections Academy schools nationwide from their secure and distraction-free home offices.
• The Substitute Teacher will frequently and regularly consult with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel using the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
• The Michigan Special Education Substitute Teacher will serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, which can range from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average assignment length of 8 to 12 weeks.
• While on assignment, the Substitute Teacher must be available online for students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone to: regularly communicate with parents, students, and other educators to develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.
• Timely completion of grading, generation of progress reports, and conducting parent conferences as instructed by the school is required.
• The instructional program will be supported through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and support for daily assignments and projects.
• Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs.
• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to ensure individual student needs are met, providing frequent updates on student behaviors and classroom activities.
• When not on assignment, check email regularly to stay informed about upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.
• Monthly meetings with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software are required, regardless of assignment status.
• Engage in required professional learning tailored to individual needs throughout the year.
• Maintain active certifications.
• Substitutes must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.
• Having multiple state certifications is an advantage.
• Ability to obtain certification in additional states as requested.
• Ability to secure additional clearances as needed.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• A dedicated and distraction-free home working environment must be maintained for all business activities.
• Availability from Monday to Friday during assigned school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone) is necessary for long-term assignments.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity is required.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting is necessary.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills are required.
• A proven commitment to student achievement is essential.
• Strong technology skills are preferred (experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps).
• Reliable high-speed internet access is mandatory.
• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).
• A customer-focused approach and a track record of being a team player are essential.
• Care for others during normal school hours while on assignment is not permitted; alternative care arrangements must be made.
• Employment in another job during normal school hours while on assignment is not allowed.
• Completion of required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year is necessary.

• Eligible new hires will receive a sign-on bonus of $2,000 after 60 days of employment.
