Substitute Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wyoming.

📋 Description

• From a secure and distraction-free home office, certified Substitute Teachers will provide virtual support for the learning programs at Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• The Substitute Teacher will engage regularly with students, Learning Coaches, and school staff using the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum resources to ensure that every child successfully completes their instructional program.

• As the teacher of record, the Wyoming Substitute Teacher will cover various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average assignment length of 8 to 12 weeks.

• While on assignment, be available online for students, parents, and school personnel from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in the school's time zone to: maintain regular communication with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update personalized learning plans and schedules, offer feedback on student assignments, suggest instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.

• Timely completion of grading, progress reports, and parent conferences as directed by the school is required.

• The instructional program will be supported through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and support for daily assignments and projects.

• Keep student records and data current, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to ensure individual student needs are met, providing regular updates on student behaviors and classroom activities.

• When not on assignment, consistently check email to stay informed about upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet at least once a month via video conferencing software with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor, regardless of assignment status.

• Complete required professional development tailored to individual needs throughout the year.

• Maintain active certifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Substitutes must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Holding multiple state certifications is advantageous.

• Ability to obtain certification in additional states as needed.

• Capacity to acquire further clearances as required.

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is necessary.

• A dedicated, distraction-free home workspace is essential for conducting all business activities.

• Availability during assigned school hours (typically Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone) is mandatory for long-term assignments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting is essential.

• Strong attention to detail, effective time management, and organizational skills are necessary.

• A commitment to student achievement is crucial.

• Strong technology skills, including experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps, are preferred.

• Reliable, high-speed internet access is a must.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player are essential.

• Care for others during normal school hours while on assignment is not permitted; alternative arrangements must be made.

• Employment in another job during normal school hours while on assignment is prohibited.

• Completion of required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire, and at the start of each school year, is mandatory.
