Substation Physical Design Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +9 more states.

📋 Description

• Design power utility substations in accordance with relevant codes and client specifications.

• Create general arrangements, electrical layouts, equipment layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding and conduit drawings, details, bills of materials, and AC/DC power systems.

• Develop ground grids utilizing applicable codes and industry-standard software.

• Formulate plans for lightning protection and grounding.

• Conduct AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.

• Generate equipment and material specifications for procurement, design scopes, and cost estimations.

• Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.

• Prepare supporting documentation for procurement, construction, and system operation/maintenance.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.

• Engage in client meetings and site visits.

• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes, including the technical review and approval of engineering design packages.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

• 4-7 years of experience in substation physical design engineering.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• Exceptional document management and organizational skills.

• Keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capable of working effectively in a team environment and interacting professionally with clients and stakeholders.
